This month’s ‘Photo of The Month’ is actually from my own home. Each of us at the David Smith Homes Group are homeowners and have to make decisions on what renovations make most sense for our own families. I, David, recently finished a garage renovation including flooring, storage lockers, garage doors, door motors and tracks, cedar wrapping the column, adding heat, painting, and new lighting.
It was an extensive project but it helped us recover a huge amount of space in the home and set the stage for us to be able to organize the rest of the home. Will we get a dollar for dollar return on the investment? No. Each time a homeowner considers renovating or updating an area of their home they should consider both ‘added value’ and also their own benefit. Very, very few renovations will immediately generate a dollar for dollar return, but they can improve your own experience in the home. What this garage does do though if we ever choose to sell is that it will speak to specific buyer demographics that it wouldn’t have before, most notably ‘car guys’ and ‘gym rats’!
If you’re considering a project in your own home and want to know our opinion on whether or not it will add value never hesitate to reach out, we’re always happy to give our professional opinion!
